2019 restoration of the greenhouse at Château du Taillis

The restoration of the greenhouse benefits from funding from the Loto du Patrimoine

The Château greenhouse was installed in the grounds and gardens of Château du Taillis around 1870. It is placed between the gardens and orchards / vegetable patch. It was purchased from a famous greenhouse and ironwork manufacturer during the GUILLOT / PELLETIER era in Orleans.

Description of the greenhouse in its current state

The greenhouse has a floor area of approximately 88 m² and a glazed area of approximately 150 m².

Its length is almost 15 meters. It is 6 meters wide.

The metal structure as a whole presents a good general state in spite of a superficial corrosion, and some deteriorations.

The canopy was covered with around 1,750 glass tiles, as well as a hundred vertical glass plates. Only a few original glasses remain, the majority having disappeared.

The assembly is designed in T-type iron, angle iron and flat iron reinforcement spars which represent approximately 500 linear meters of fittings. It also consists of roof openings. In the length of the building, 48 spans cut the whole. On each side face, 19 vertical bays are also positioned.

The greenhouse rests on the roof.

Objective of the work

The objective of this restoration is to restore the greenhouse to its original state, as well

aesthetically than in its initial use.

Works :

  • Ironwork restoration
  • Painting
  • Glass installation in the traditional way
  • Small masonry
